Chicos del Barrio – Empowering Youth Through Dance and Creativity in Santiago de Cuba

Chicos del Barrio is a vibrant community project in a marginalized neighborhood of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, where teenagers come together to learn and practice Cuban dance.

Led by former professional dancer and local figure Sara Mustelier, the initiative nurtures creativity and cultural pride. It gives young participants a sense of belonging and a place in a supportive community. Through dance, they build confidence and discipline while preparing for local and national choreography competitions.

ONE. is proudly supporting this initiative by equipping the training sessions with a professional audio system and providing dance competition costumes for over 20 children. Future support is planned to further strengthen the program and expand the initiative’s impact.

Such local projects play a crucial role in the youth’s development in Cuba, offering them a platform to grow, discover their potential, and build a positive future for themselves and their community.
